Late Waxwings

I decided to shoot over to Wales for the last hour of sunlight this evening to try and get a few shots of three Waxwings that had been reported. I arrived to see them perched on an overhead wire above a couple of Cotoneaster bushes, amazingly for this time of year the bushes still held quite a lot of berries. They kept dropping down and feeding for a minute or two, before returning back to the wire.
The light wasn't brilliant and the pale coloured factory behind the bushes didn't help with the background, I managed a few half decent shots though. There was a female Blackcap and a Fieldfare in the bushes also, the latter was keeping well hidden though and wasn't photographable. A Pied Wagtail was an added bonus just as I was about to leave. Not a bad hours work for a spur of the moment session.

Simply Wonderful! I have only seen a Cedar Waxwing once (actually it was a pair). They were in my tree for about 2 days, then gone. I could never get close enough for a good shot.

Fantastic waxwings! Oh my! All of them are great, but the berry "pop up" is brilliant!

Ritratti stupendi di un uccellino goloso, e come si vedono bene i dettagli delle piume! Le tue foto sono sempre meravigliose, non saprei quale altro aggettivo scrivere. Complimenti e buona giornata! Cri : )

Lovely photos! Waxwings are characterized by soft silky plumage. They are choose nest sites in places with rich supplies of fruit and breed late in the year to take advantage of summer ripening. Thanks a lot...

One of the toughest assignments in bird photography is getting feather detail on waxwings which you obviously captured beautifully. The settings and light are remarkable and a real joy to look at. Thanks for sharing your fine art!
